Welcome to Vette Happenings

I've designed this blog to be a source of as many sites as I can find that list events of interest to Central Florida Corvette owners as well as major events nationally of interest to Florida Corvette enthusiasts. Please note the new Pages link in the right sidebar, linking to a page listing Corvette and open car shows of interest.

Florida Car Shows is probably the most comprehensive listing of car shows all over the state. You can find shows listed by region of the state, and then by month of the event. They also have events that reoccur on a monthly or weekly basis.

National Council of Corvette Clubs, Florida Region events page lists sanctioned events by member clubs east of the Apalachicola River in Florida.

CruisinOrlando hosts car shows and cruise-in's at various venues in the Central Florida Region. Be sure to check their site if you just want to show off your Corvette somewhere, not necessarily a car show, although they do put on several car shows during the year.

Florida Cool Rides: The Muscle Car Network is a social media site coordinating car shows in Central Florida. They recently relocated to Facebook.

Cruise News is an in print magazine covering events primarily in Florida, but with national events as well. Their web site has a lot of useful information including a section listing car clubs in the local area, but all the car shows are in the magazine only. Worth subscribing to if you're really into showing off your car.

Mid Florida Cruisers is another social media web site dedicated to car events in the Central Florida Area.

Cruisin' Style magazine has an online listing of car shows state by state. Here's the resulting page for Florida listings.

Every Car Show has listings for car shows all over the U. S. as well. Their search engine can narrow the search down to keyword (like "Corvette"), dates, various categories and state.

High Performance Promotions puts on car shows and events around the state.

Another national car show site with events by state. Here is their Florida page.

Corvette Florida is a forum with car show listings on their calendar and posts.

Premium Productions is a car show promoter. They hold shows all over Florida. Usually large shows with great prizes and trophies.

Major Car Shows & Events

Throughout the country, there are major car shows every year that draw people to them; some are in the Central Florida area. Here is my list, by no means complete, for your review.

The largest (can't be verified, but likely is) and most fun-filled Corvette event in the world, the annual Corvettes at Carlisle event features more than 5,000 Corvettes representing all generations of America’s classic sports car. Corvette enthusiasm is contagious with participation in autocross, burnouts and the parade through historic downtown Carlisle, PA. The excitement continues with an incredible shopping experience, including a huge swap meet with a wide variety of vendors, an all-Corvette car corral, Manufacturers Midway and Installation Alley. 2015's event is August 28-30.

Mid America Motorworks sponsors and hosts the annual Corvette Funfest.  What started in 1994 as a customer appreciation party for a few hundred Corvette owners has grown to become the Largest Corvette Party in the World! (note that "largest" is a claim made by several of these shows.) This years Funfest will be the 22nd annual held in Effingham, IL. September 17-20.

As its name indicates, Bloomington Gold got its start in 1973 in Bloomington, Illinois, as a one-day show called the Bloomington Corvette Corral. A year later, it expanded to two days, and over the next few years it continued to grow. The show made its first move in 1993 to the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, then in 1998, then under Dana Mecum’s ownership, moved back to Bloomington. Subsequent moves in 2002 and 2013 took the show, respectively, to St. Charles, Illinois, and to Champaign, IL.The 2017 Bloomington Gold show will take place June 22 to 24 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis, IN.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day automotive event, drawing 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe—from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, Japan and the former Soviet Union. North American cruisers from California, Georgia, Canada and all points in between caravan to Metro Detroit to participate in what has become, for many, an annual rite of summer. The Dream Cruise takes place along a 16-mile stretch on the historical  Woodward Avenue through nine host communities including Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac and Royal Oak, in Southeast Michigan. This year, the 21st Annual Woodward Dream Cruise will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015. It runs between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

The Daytona Turkey Run is the largest combined Car Show & Swap Meet in the USA.  Car enthusiasts from across the US and internationally make their way to racing’s most celebrated location, the Daytona International Speedway.  Started in 1974 and held every Thanksgiving Weekend and the last weekend in March, attendees enjoy more than 6,000 vintage, classic, muscle cars, race cars and trucks for show and sale. The show also includes more than 2,500 swap meet spaces, Artisan Alley, food and entertainment.  This year's event will be held Thursday through Sunday, Nov 26-29. Hours Thurs-Sat 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

So technically not a car show, but the whole series of Mecum Auctions around the country (many broadcast on the NBC Sports Network on cable TV) does constitute a display of significant numbers of classic cars, muscle cars and Corvettes wherever they conduct business. Here in Central Florida, their temporary home is at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Fl for 10 days in January. You'll typically see 3,000 - 5,000 vehicles with between 500 and 1000 Corvettes presented for sale. Whether you purchase a bidders pass (entry for 2 people for all 10 days) or a one day admission, it's a unique experience.

The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association hold custom car shows all over the country. Unfortunately, they have decided not to hold a 2016 event in Kissimmee as they have in past years, but check out their other events on their event page.

The National Corvette Homecoming is an annual event held in Bowling Green, Kentucky celebrating America’s production sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette. First held in 1981, it was created by two Corvette enthusiasts, Tom Hill and Sam Hall, in response to the assembly of Corvettes moving from St. Louis, MO to the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, which is currently the sole assembler of the car. The event takes place for three days in July, and offers Corvette owners and specialty vendors opportunities to network. All Corvette production years and custom variations are welcome. 2016's event will be July 14-16. Details:

The Corvette Chevy Expo features World Class Chevrolet Show Cars and Chevy Show Trucks. The Swap meet is full of Major National Vendors. There are cars for Sale in the Cars Sales mart. On Saturday, Costume Characters entertain the Children. Bondurant runs a school of high performance driving in Chandler, AZ in the Phoenix, AZ area. This is their annual Corvette event October 24-25, 2015. It's a bit expensive, but you'll get all the value of their school along with various events such as auto cross, lead & follow on the track, open track, drag racing and even karting. If you don't want to take your car to Arizona, you can rent one of their Corvettes. All the details at

Corvette Associations & Their Calendars of Events

The National Corvette Museum is a venue unto itself. Every Corvette Owner should plan a visit to the NCM in Bowling Green, KY as well as schedule a tour of the General Motors Corvette plant located nearby. Several large events are scheduled each year as well as a national caravan conducted every 5 years where Corvette clubs from all over the country (some from other nations) meet up and travel together to the NCM for a reunion. Link to their Calendar of Events and club listings of events that have been posted by them.

The National Corvette Restorers Society focuses on the restoration of Corvettes of all generations to as close to original stock condition as possible. A Corvette owner may join NCRS and attend one of their events to have their car judged and graded. An annual NCRS winter meet is usually conducted in Florida; the current venue is in Lakeland, FL. Here's a link to their 2015 calendar of events.

The Grand Sport Registry focuses on Corvette Grand Sport models, but you don't have to own a Grand Sport to join their association. Here is a link to their events calendar.
